Frequently Asked Questions Expand All
- Why should I consider attending the ESA?
Do you ever feel like you’re fighting your gear, the slope or your own technique? Is there terrain you’re tired of avoiding? Big moguls, deep powder, steep cruisers, the trees…where have you always wanted to go?
EpicSki Academy is your ticket there!
EpicSki Academy is an opportunity to overcome the limitations that have kept you from enjoying your time on skis as much as you could. No matter what advancements you want to make in your skiing, the ESA coaches have the ability to make it happen, regardless of your past history or current skill level.
- Do I have to be an excellent skier to attend the ESA?
Come as you are! The ESA is specifically created for dedicated skiers, and attendees have ranged from very new skiers to those with many years on their skis. The ESA is designed to help you improve in those areas specifically of interest to you. In fact, we’ll ask you to fill out a pre-event questionnaire so that we can be certain to group you with your peers.
- What if I am already a very good skier?
Come along, share your knowledge, and grow even better! We all have something to learn about skiing, and as dedicated skiers, we’re all seeking new insights, skills, and thrills. Come along to see what additional growth you can experience and what new sensations you can experience in your skiing. As another very good skier said last year: “This is my sixth ESA. Each one has made me a better skier. My expectations and what is delivered are definitely in alignment. I try to show up in the best shape I can and take it from there. There is no better product on the market that I am aware of.”
- What makes EpicSki Academy different from other ski learning opportunities?
At EpicSki Academy you’ll be placed in a group of dedicated skiers that take learning seriously and want to have a great time while taking their skiing to the next level. Here’s what last year’s student’s have to say:
“I like having four days with the same coach and same people. Four days gives plenty of time to explore lots of things that can’t be done in a 1 or 2 day clinic.”
“These classes were not like typical ski school. They were all day in small groups, with focused attention to skiing technique and lots of turns in all sorts of terrain. There is nothing to do with technique or technique problems that these coaches can’t pick out, analyze and help change.”
We select our coaches based on one criteria: Excellence. All are seasoned pros at the top of their game. Because we’re not tied to any ideology or system other than the fundamentals of good skiing, our coaches know no boundaries, just as we hope for our students and our academy itself!
- What do attendees get out of the ESA?
A sampling of comments from some of the students and coaches who participated in our camps in 2009:
- “Saying that I had a wonderful time at ESA Aspen Snowmass is a huge understatement. I still can’t get over the amount of improvement we all made with our skiing in such a short time. Especially after the first two days, our entire group made such strides it was hard to believe.” –TeddyG, student
- “The 4 days with Squatty Schuler were the best 4 days of instruction and skiing I have ever experienced.” –Pete No. Idaho, student
- “If you are debating on Epic and you want to take your Skiing to the next level Don’t think about it anymore EPIC is the place for you !!!! –GWSkier, student
- “The best thing about the ESA academies is all the wonderful people we get to meet. The worst thing is that I MISS my group after it’s all over. Thanks gang for all the energy and enthusiasm. We “got away with something” again!!!” Robin Barnes, coach
- What results can I expect from attending the ESA?
Your skiing will change in a direction keeping with your personal goals and aspirations. We heard from people who said their skiing changed more in four days than in four years, but the most common remark we received after last year’s clinic was that the quality of the instruction and the enthusiasm of the participants was what made it so special. Some people believe in and experience breakthroughs; others absorb instruction incrementally and progress steadily. We firmly believe that we can make a difference in your skiing. The combination of quality instruction and participant enthusiasm creates an incredibly positive affective environment for learning that lifts everyone up in it.
- What does the event fee cover?
At Stowe it covers two full days of instruction, lift tickets, video movement analysis, banquet, and souvenir. At Aspen/Snowmass event fees cover four full days of instruction and lift tickets, afternoon presentations, welcome party, farewell banquet, video, bootfitting assessment, and souvenir. This leaves your transportation, meals, lodging, and equipment as additional trip expenses.
- What’s the lodging deal?
We make arrangements at one lodging property per venue so the group may get a discount rate on rooms, meeting space, and hospitality. When you make your lodging reservations, be sure the salesperson knows you are attending EpicSki Academy.
- What size will the groups be?
We plan for a student-teacher ratio of 6:1. This is in contrast to the industry average of 8:1.
- Will you be having video movement analysis?
Yes! We will have videographers on hand and A/V equipment for review sessions.
- Will boot fitting and/or equipment demos be available?
At AspenSnowmass we will have outstanding bootfitters on hand to work with ESA students. We also work with the local shops to get ESA-goers a good deal on ski demos and tuning.
- How about bringing family members? Are there age limits for attendees?
We welcome non-participating family members at all our après-ski functions, but due to liability issues, we can only accept students over 18 years of age. However, we work with ski resorts that have excellent facilities and services for children of all ages.
- Do we have a local travel agent booking our travel arrangements?
No. We find that participants can do better on their own using one of the online discount travel sites.
- Do you accept credit cards?
Yes, we use PayPal to handle credit card purchases.
- Do you have an enrollment cap?
We have not run out of coaches yet!
- What are the due dates for payment?
Payment in full is required no later than three weeks prior to the event. (Don’t worry, we send a reminder.)
- What is your policy on refunds, if it turns out I must withdraw after registration?
You will receive a 100% refund if you withdraw 60 days prior to an event. After that time there are no refunds. You may, however, apply your payment to a subsequent event.
